Once you have your pages and profiles set up the best way possible it now comes time to focus on the content that you will be posting.  This is true of all social media platforms and I will say it again and again, you may even want to write it down.  Social media is called “social” for a reason. You aren’t reading about “banner ad” media, “self-promotion” media or even “hey look at me” media as some people feel.  You are reading about social media. And the purpose of social media is to create social interactions with people, people that you would have never otherwise had access to.

Take a moment and think of some of the people that you are “friends” with online or that you have chosen to follow.  If you are anything like me, many of these people I did not meet in person first. Many of the people I am connected with online are not in my immediate geographical area and without the amazing power of the internet, we both would have gone through our entire lives never knowing the other existed. Much less knowing what they are working on or struggling within their personal lives.  Social media has given us so much access to the people we are truly needing to connect, with but you don’t want to abuse that privilege.

I honestly hope that when you meet new people in everyday, real-world situations you don’t reach your hand out with a business card and say “Hi, I do XYZ, would you like to buy from me?”  It sounds absurd but that is how many people treat social media. Marketers and other social media experts have even coined the phrase “Marketing To The Masses.” It is true that using social media you have a much better chance of reaching the masses, but if that is the only value you see with social media it isn’t very likely your efforts will be successful.

I teach the step by step, tactical ways I have found and use, to get the most out of the time I have invested for myself and my clients over the years. But the first thing you must understand about the content I teach you to create is that it has to come from the right place. I don’t mean the right website or have the right colors and design to catch attention, those are important things, sure, but the number one most important thing is that your social media posts must remain social.  Even though you are talking to hundreds or thousands of people at one time you have to make those people feel like you are only talking to them. To be truly successful on social media you have to find your voice to the masses and hone it in on the individuals you are most seeking to connect with. You have to create a real-world, social engagement, complete with all the feels, across thousands of miles, and through an electronic device. It isn’t impossible though.
