While running my own business gives me the freedom of schedule to make these wonderful trips possible I still have clients and commitments to take care of. I spent last week cramming every extra minute of getting things done so that I could enjoy Thanksgiving and take the extra day off for our trip. I was in the zone. During the day I was super business owner (with the help of my wonderful assistant) and at night I was super mom getting the house ready, everything packed, and all the Thanksgiving day prep work prepped.
The long weekend started off amazing with Thanksgiving with the in-laws and sled rides in the fresh snow for the kids. After the girls were nestled into bed I heard a huge crash out in the garage. My husband and I ran out there with our phones for light and found a raccoon bigger than my oldest child perched up on the garage door. I live in Ogden! This stuff happened all the time in Willard but what was this beast doing in our house in the middle of a subdivision. Also how long had it been in there? We opened the door and tried to coax it out. Apparently it really didn’t want to leave and we spent about 3 hours trying to get him out before just giving up. Despite our adventure with the raccoon that night we tucked into bed with everything ready to take off our trip.
The next day started out great. There was no sign of the monster raccoon and we were ready to head out the door. Our destination is just a little hours away so we planned to grab some lunch when we got there until we could check into the hotel. I took care of a few loose ends with clients. Returning phone calls, setting appointments, and responding to emails while my husband drove. We stopped at a gas station just as we got into town to grab some drinks for the room. My oldest daughter then threw up all over the back of the driver’s seat, onto the diaper bag below and all over herself. I thought she just must have gotten car sick from watching a movie while driving and my husband and I cleaned up the mess and got her changed. We decided to skip lunch for now and do early check in so that I could make sure everything else was properly cleaned so we didn’t have a mess in the car. As soon as we got into the room we found out that my baby was not just car sick. Over the next several hours both of my kids took turns “being sick” all over our hotel room. It was like something from a nightmare or a horror movie. All through the night one after the other on every surface in the room. Every bedspread, every outfit I had packed for the entire trip, and every towel. We woke up to a disaster even though none of us really got any sleep. I had the sheepish task of going to the front desk and asking for all new bedding and linens. They insisted on coming into clean the room so that we didn’t have to and we packed up our girls and headed to the laundromat.
We debated back and forth about just coming home but the girls would be heartbroken they had been excited for weeks to go to the hot pools. We decided to take it easy and give it the rest of the day. We all pretty much slept but the girls seemed to be doing better. We hand a light dinner (in the room, just in case) and decided that as long as neither got sick in the night we would hit the pools before heading home.
We woke up the next morning without any more getting sick and excitedly got ready to check out and hit the pools. Just as we were heading out the door my youngest got sick-not the throw up type! There is no way that we could take her to the pools. We tried to bribe KJ with a movie if we could just go home but she was so adamant that she was going to the hot pools. My husband and I decided to divide and conquer- I took KJ to the pool for an hour and he took Baby K out to breakfast. We arrived home exhausted! We sat Sunday night just laughing about how insane the weekend had gone and how we have never been so happy for a Monday.
Monday came with its own surprise. I am not a lady that checks on my bank accounts unless I have a need. Monday around 11 I just happened to check and see if payments had been processed while we were out of town and found that someone had used by business account to go Christmas shopping. I was shocked. I had my card in my wallet how could they be using it and worst of all they were using my pin to run the transactions as debits! I was literally shaking, if they had my card info what else could they have? And how did they get it? I called the bank to cancel the card and they stated that they needed to run an investigation before replacing the money that was spent.
I spent the next few hours filing police reports with each city that the fraud was conducted in. Logan to Riverdale. Now I guess that I just wait to see how it all turns out. They completely cleaned my business account out. They are on video running multiple cards at Sams Club just trying to get one to work. The police referred to what they did as “cloning” my card.
